Teaching

Sometimes you have to talk it out. When you start talking, sometimes you hear new things, or old things in a new way. That is, obviously, one of the benefits of therapy. I’ve found that it’s also one of the benefits of podcasting. I’m proud to join with my colleague Laura Heck as co-host of Marriage Therapy Radio. Each week, we explore some of the stories and themes and topics that we encounter in our practice. If you’re curious about who I am or what I think, this is a great way to get to know me and my practice better.

Marriage Therapy Radio

Real couples. Real conversations.
Real tools for your relationship.

I’m the host of Marriage Therapy Radio, a weekly podcast about what makes relationships work—and what gets in the way. After more than 300 episodes, thousands of hours in the therapist chair, and one (mostly happy) marriage of my own, I’ve learned this:
Every great relationship is a work in practice.

Each week, you’ll hear candid conversations with couples, therapists, authors, and people who are willing to talk about what love really looks like—behind the scenes and under the surface. Sometimes it’s serious. Sometimes it’s ridiculous. It’s always honest.
And it always starts the same way:

“THIS is a cool conversation. Stick around.”

What You'll Hear

  • Couples telling the truth about what keeps them connected (and what nearly broke them)
  • Smart, funny, slightly nerdy takes on therapy concepts that actually apply to real life
  • Interviews with experts in love, sex, conflict, parenting, repair, and play
  • A growing focus on couples telling their stories together—because relationships are best understood from both sides

Ep 397 – Session 1 | A Peek in the Therapeutic Process

In this experimental therapy-format episode,  Zach meets with a couple, 16 years into marriage, parenting two adopted, neurodivergent kids, and living abroad, to model what real therapeutic work sounds like. The wife names “the mother machine” as the force grinding her down: menopause, recent moves, ongoing renovations, executive-function challenges, and hyper-empathy that makes parenting especially taxing….

Zach as a Speaker

In addition to hosting Marriage Therapy Radio, I speak regularly to audiences of clinicians, couples, churches, and corporations about what it takes to build stronger, more sustainable relationships.

Whether you’re planning a conference, retreat, or keynote, I bring a unique blend of clinical wisdom, practical tools, and unexpected humor. My goal? To help people rethink what intimacy, repair, and relational health really look like—in life, work, and love.
